Short but sweet

No, I'm not talking about Mom, although when we use the phrase "short but sweet" she's usually the topic. I gotta make a quick post and dart away. On deadline...and behind due to various family issues. Yesterday we spent the day moving youngest offspring to an apartment three hours away so she can attend school. Lots of mixed emotions on a day like that. It was exhausting physically (wow, it was sooooo hot!!!) and emotionally (sooooo hard for this mama to let her little birdlings fly so far away), but driving across the Kansas landscape provided some glimpses of beauty. I'll share more in a later blog, but for now, here's the first one I snapped as we took off with the trailer full of belongings:

As I watched the sun burst through the clouds with fingers of light, a hymn from my childhood ran through my mind.

When morning gilds the skies
my heart awakening cries:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Alike at work and prayer,
to Jesus I repair:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

The night becomes as day
when from the heart we say:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The powers of darkness fear
when this sweet chant they hear:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Let all the earth around
ring joyous with the sound:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
In heaven's eternal bliss
the loveliest strain is this:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Be this, while life is mine,
my canticle divine:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this th' eternal song
through all the ages long:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

And you know something? Singing a praise song at the top of your lungs is a great way to alleviate stress. I highly recommend it! More next week, but for now...

May God bless you muchly as you journey with Him! ~Kim

  1. Thanks for sharing, Kim! The picture is beautiful (God is an awesome artist!) and that hymn is one of my all-time favorites. ~ My heart goes out to you moving your youngest so far away. My baby goes to college in 2 weeks, and I already get tears just thinking about it (and he will only be 30 minutes away,LOL). Prayers for you and your daughter as you both adjust to this new lifestyle.
    Hugs, Patti Jo

  2. Thanks for the prayers, Patti Jo! She called yesterday evening and said she was so lonesome, she was hugging her teddy bear. lol Instead, I was hugging a cat. :o) I trust you're doing better every day!

  3. Hi Kim,what a magnificent photo and that hymn is so apt,the two go hand in hand!
I know just how you feel.. we have one son living in Singapore,so necessitates an eight hour plane trip to see him and our other son used to live in Queensland, but thankfully is now living back here in South Aus. Skype is a wonderful way to keep in touch for us.

We pray that God will keep our children safe and that means you and your daughter too.

    Take care, Rosie.

  4. Amazing picture, Kim. Scenery like that makes journeys that much more worthwhile. Even with the bittersweet parting of your youngest leaving the nest to attend college, God provides you with beauty to remind you He's right there with you.

My heart goes out to you, and I feel the separation on the other end, being 2000 miles away from my father. I'm the only girl with 3 brothers, and I now have the only grand-daughter for my dad. Yep...it's hard! But God is with us all. And He knows all about the ultimate separation from His son when Jesus took our sins upon Him.

    Praying!

  5. Rosie and Tiff, thanks for the encouraging words! It's comforting to remember that even if I can't be "right there" with my daughter, God always is. The growing-up thing...hard on these ol' moms. :o) But God's arms are wrapped around me, too, in complete understanding. Y'all take care!
