Gramma's darlin' bunch

When my girls were young, I would often mumble under my breath, "Wait 'til you're a mother--then you'll understand." Well, guess what? All three of my girls now have wee people calling them Mommy...and all three of my girls now say, "Mom, I get it." Kind of fun to discover you weren't so dumb after all. *ahem*

The other thing I told my girls--teasingly, of course--was, "Don'tcha give me no ugly grandbabies." Well, apparently my girls took it to heart, because I think I have a very darling bunch of grandkiddos. See for yourself...

These two tow-headed cuties are the oldest of our nine-pack. Both eight years old and growing up sooo fast. I love Oldest Grandboy's sense of humor and philosophical nature. It is a true delight to have a conversation with him. Oldest Grandgirl loves to dance. I recently taught her to blow a straw wrapper and she has excellent form. :o)

Our two first graders are so cute right now with their missing front teeth. These two are CONSTANT action and it can be tough for Gramma to keep up with them. They also give awesome hugs. I snag those hugs as often as I can because I know little grandboys become big grandboys and they'll be too embarrassed to race across the floor, arms outstretched, for a Gramma-hug. I savor these moments.

Kindergarten Grandboy is the cuddliest of all the grandkiddos. He loves to read, to draw, to do puzzles...and his attention to detail is amazing. I suspect we have an artist in the making. He loves to whisper in my ear, "Gramma, you're pretty." Melts my heart every time. *sigh*

Have you ever seen a more ornery pair than this? The Bugaboos--just-turned-five and just-turned-four--are best friends. Oldest Bugaboo has an incredible imagination, and Youngest Bugaboo is almost too sweet for words. There's a never a dull moment when these two are around.

Little Grandgirl, with four big brothers, should be a tomboy, but nope--she's pure princess. She loves to play with dolls, to dress up, to pretend she's shopping... She also wants to dance like big sister. Sometimes I just sit and watch her and smile because she's so animated. And she's very fascinated with her little cousin, our Wugmump.

Wugmump just passed the eight-month mark, and she's so proud of her twin teeth. The entire world is a place of wonder when you're this young, and it makes me feel young again, viewing the world through her little eyes. I especially enjoy watching her observe herself. I almost wish she could talk so I'd know if she understand she's seeing herself or if she thinks there's another baby on the other side of the glass.

Being a mom isn't the easiest thing sometimes. It's rife with challenges, with heartaches, with moments when you wonder if you'll even survive. I second-guessed myself a lot when my girls were growing up, wondering if I was making more mistakes than making the right decisions. But watching my girls with their children--seeing the mothers they have become--makes me proud. And now I get to reap the benefit of having grown-up daughters: GRANDKIDDOS!

I love being a gramma. I didn't know my grandmothers--they both died long before I was born--so maybe that's why I cherish the position so much. All I know for sure is these nine little people are firmly imbedded in my heart. When I count blessings, the list contains six sweeties, two bugaboos, and one wugmump. I'm so grateful God allowed me the privilege of being a mom, and the He brought these precious wee ones into my life. :o)

May God bless you muchly as you journey with Him! ~Kim

  1. Oh Kim, you make me want to cry. Being in my early thirties, I found myself divorced, depressed, and unfulfilled in my career. I found myself asking God why he hasn't blessed me with children and only gave unhappiness and misery. One day I realized I needed to change my attitude and trust in Him. A couple years later, I've remarried to a wonderful man and my new career is taking care of our two blessings from God. Its hard but, I'm loving it! Thanks for a reminder how truly blessed I am!

  2. Hi Kim,

The grandkiddos are darline and thanks for sharing the cute pictures! Always a joy to see those smiling faces.

Also, Rosie has updated me this morning. The opthamologist says her pressure in the eye has dropped from 24 to 9. Praise God!
It takes a full month before they consider her a "success," but so far she's doing super. However, she tried getting on the computer and it bothers the eye so I'm passing along her message. She thanks everyone for their prayers and will appreciate continuing prayers for a complete recovery.

  7. Thanks for popping by, Catherine. Yes, I like to think my grandkiddos are adorable, but I am very biased! lol You can't tell from the pics, but SEVEN of the nine have those beautiful blue eyes. Little Bugaboo's eyes are hazel (but surrounded by incredibly thick, long lashes) and Grandboy #2 has very unique, pale gray eyes. Those eyes will intrigue the young ladies someday. :o)

  8. Hmmm...hearing you talk about the eyes and all makes me think of Lauraine Snelling's books and the Bjorkland blue eyes that all the Bjorklands have :-)
