Celebrate with me! :o)

Celebration time! October 1st marked the release of my 13th title with Bethany House--my 28th overall. I don’t think it really matters how many books there are...each release is special, each release delights me, each release brings a rush of joy and gratitude. And this one is no exception.

Two years ago I read a tiny snippet of Kansas history--how a promising town became a ghost town in a short amount of time due to an act of nature and an act of government (you’ll learn more later this month during the FALL CHRISTIAN FICTION SCAVENGER HUNT, so hold that thought ’til then, okay?). Additionally, a reader on Facebook made the comment that she’d love to read a wagon train story. Her request became tangled with the tidbit from history, and A Home in Drayton Valley grew from those story seeds.

To prepare for the story, which is set along the Missouri River in the northeast corner of Kansas, a friend and I made a five-hour drive to explore that part of Kansas. Such fun we had! Standing along the riverbank, gazing up the wide river, I could imagine paddleboats bringing their wares and busy dock workers scrambling here and there with boxes, barrels, and burlap bags weighting their arms. A few of the houses built during the era in which my story is set still stand, giving a lovely glimpse of the past.

I will admit, this wasn't the easiest story to write. It encompasses some difficult subjects, including the devastating disease cancer and the concept of unconditional love even when the person is unlovable. One has the potential to destroy, the other the potential to mend...and facing either requires a tremendous strength of will. Twining these two contrasting concepts into one cohesive story was a bit taxing, but I'm pleased with the outcome. God has the power to heal! Showcasing His wonderworking power through story always thrills my heart.

Thank you joining me in giving God the glory for the gifts He bestows upon His children. I am so very grateful for ALL of His blessings.

And when I count blessings, gotta include this little Wugmump, who had her first visit to a pumpkin patch. Does she look proud of her find? Hard not to smile when enjoying these precious “firsts” with the new generation in my family.

Remember to check back next week for an update concerning the FALL CHRISTIAN FICTION SCAVENGER HUNT!

Until then, God bless you muchly as you journey with Him! ~Kim

  3. Kim! Congratulations my Friend! What an absolutely thrilling occasion for celebration this October. You should be so proud! I can scarcely wait to read it,but know I'll have to wait forever before it arrives "Down Under." I might get it more quickly if I pick it up next year when we are in the US!:0)
I loved reading about the preparation and ideas that you envisaged. That sends a signal to me that this is a "MUST READ!"

I'm sure you and your friend, had a great time exploring together and creating the history it might have been.... always much more fun when you have somebody nice to share your adventures.

Just for the record, I walked into our Christian Bookshop as soon as they opened last Monday and I saw "Fields of Grace" and "A Heart Surrenders" on display, so I snaffled them up before anyone else saw them! I felt and probably looked, like the cat who had stolen the cream. LOL!
I relish such a rare moment of sanity when I manage to read your books and escape the demands of a very hectic life. Blessings to you for your literary talent, dear lady!:0)

I used to joke and say I might need another bookshelf just to house my Kim Vogel Sawyer books....well, it's no longer a "joke"--I think I really DO need another one specially for YOUR books.*grin* ~ That photo of the Wugmump with pumpkin is adorable (and is that little pink hat she's wearing a KITTY?!). Soooo precious. Thank you for sharing with us today, and again--Congratulations on your VERY successful writing career--you are AMAZING! Hugs, Patti Jo
